Company Description

Discovery UK is the overseas outpost of US-based cable programming giant Discovery Communications (DCI). The subsidiary distributes a portfolio of channels including Animal Planet, Discovery Science, and its flagship Discovery Channel for audiences in the UK and Ireland. The channels are made available through cable and satellite operators including British Sky Broadcasting and Virgin TV (owned by Virgin Media). It also offers free-to-air digital channel Qwest on Freeview (operated by DTV Services). DCI's international reach encompasses some 170 countries and more than 1.5 billion subscribers. The Discovery Channel was launched in the UK in 1989.
