Direct Rail Services (DRS) has a track record in the UK rail freight business. Its freight operations primarily transport spent nuclear fuel from UK power stations to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority's Sellafield reprocessing plant. The company also moves bulk chemicals and low-level nuclear waste as well as consumer goods and time sensitive material across the country. DRS was formed in 1996 following the privatization of the UK railroad in order to transport radioactive and hazardous materials for then parent British Nuclear Fuels Limited.
