There are laws to prevent price-fixing, monopolies, and other practices that restrain trade; there are also agencies to enforce those laws. The mission of the Department of Justice's Antitrust Division is to promote competition in the US economy through the enforcement of, improvement to, and education about antitrust laws. The DOJ's Antitrust Division can bring both criminal and civil enforcement actions in the course of its duties, and works with agents in the FBI and other investigative agencies to obtain evidence. The Antitrust Division receives funding through the DOJ and from revenue raised through filing fees required by antitrust legislation.The agency has an annual budget of about $165 million.
