DEI Holdings is the holding company of several well-known consumer electronics brands in North America, including Directed Electronics' Viper, Python, and Clifford automobile security and remote start systems and Orion car audio systems. It is also a leading designer and manufacturer of premium home theater loudspeakers sold under the Polk Audio and Definitive Technology brands. DEI Holdings markets its products through several channels, including national retailers and specialty chains, among them Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Sears. The company was acquired by private equity firm Charlesbank Capital Partners for about $305 million in 2011.
