Dawson Holdings supplies books and other publications to the reading public. The firm has three lines of business: Media Direct, Books, and Marketing. Each year Dawson Media Direct handles about 150 million in-flight newspapers and magazines for 120-plus airlines. Dawson began in 1809 as a bookseller, but exited the newspaper and magazine distribution market in 2009, citing its "terminal decline." Subsidiaries Surridge Dawson and Solent SD were subsequently placed under administration (the US equivalent of bankruptcy). Most of their assets were acquired by Britain's biggest newspaper and magazine distributor
