The Dallas Stars professional hockey team represents the Big D in the National Hockey League, boasting one Stanley Cup championship in 1999. Dallas joined the ranks of the NHL in 1993 when then-owner Norm Green moved the team formerly known as the North Stars from Minnesota. The Stars play home games at American Airlines Center. Following several years of financial instability, Vancouver businessman Tom Gaglardi acquired the team in 2011 for an estimated $265 million.
