Daemen College is a private liberal arts university located in Amherst, New York. The college offers more than than three dozen undergraduate major programs, about 15 graduate and accelerated courses of study, and a handful of professional certifications. It has an enrollment of about 3,000 students and a student-faculty ratio of 15:1. The school was established in 1947 as Rosary Hill College by the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity, whose founder was Magdalene Daemen, a Dutch woman dedicated to working with the poor. Originally a liberal arts college for women, Daemen became coeducational in 1971.
