Company Description

DSM Dyneema finds dynamic uses for a deeply durable fiber. The company, a unit of the Dutch specialty chemicals maker Royal DSM NV, makes specialized polyethylene fiber (marketed as Dyneema) for use in bullet-resistant armor, bomb disposal suits, heavy-duty marine cables, fishing nets, ropes, and safety gloves. The company estimates that Dyneema, which it calls "the world's strongest fiber," is up to 15 times stronger than steel. With its Dyneema Purity line, DSM Dyneema also uses its lightweight material in medical and dental applications such as surgical cables and orthopedic sutures. Parent DSM agreed to acquire Shandong ICD High Performance Fibre in 2011 to help DSM Dyneema grow in the Chinese market.
