Company Description
CVD Equipment has expanded well beyond the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) equipment that gave it its name. (During CVD, precise layers of chemicals are deposited onto semiconductor wafers during chip manufacturing.) The company's specialized equipment is also used in the development of nanotechnology -- namely solar cells, smart glass, carbon nanotubes, nanowires, LEDs, and micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS). CVD Equipment still makes custom-designed products for major semiconductor companies, but its newer technologies are used by universities, research labs, and startup companies. Its largest shareholder is Chairman and CEO Leonard A. Rosenbaum, who founded the company in 1982, and owns 29%.
