This link will open in a new window London-based Crystal Palace Football Club plays in the English League. (That's a soccer league, to you Americans.) The team, also known as the "Eagles" represents a borough of London called Croydon. It was founded in 1905 by workers at the Crystal Palace, a wrought iron and glass building originally erected in the Hyde Park area of London to house the Great Exhibition of 1851 (the first in a series of World's Fair exhibitions). The Crystal Palace Football Club moved to its current stadium Selhurt Park in 1924. Chairman Simon Jordan took over the club in 2000, ending Crystal Palace's stint with bankruptcy.
