Company Description
Investment firm Counsel Corporation seeks out controlling stakes in a variety of established companies. It targets the real estate, communications, consumer goods, and other sectors in Canada and the US. Holdings include asset liquidator Counsel RB Capital and Fleetwood Fine Furniture, which manufactures custom case goods for upscale hotels. Its Knights Bridge Capital subsidiary makes investments up to $10 million in small and mid-market companies throughout North America. In 2010 Counsel sold the remainder of its real estate portfolio, which consisted of eight retail properties in Ontario and New Brunswick, to Retrocom Mid-Market Real Estate Investment Trust. FCMI Financial owns nearly 20% of Counsel.
