The name says "corporate" but it's really about government. A self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT), Corporate Office Properties Trust develops and operates suburban office buildings, most leased to the federal government and defense contractors. It owns about 220 properties totaling more than 17 million sq. ft. in Colorado, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia. It also has some 20 office properties under development, about 1,500 undeveloped acres, and interests in various other properties. Its biggest tenant is the US government, which accounts for 16% of the rent.
