Constellation Energy Group's leading light is still utility Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), which distributes electricity and natural gas in Maryland. The company trades and markets wholesale energy through Constellation Energy Commodities Group, which is one of the top power marketers in North America. Constellation Energy operates independent power plants with 9,030 MW of generating capacity through its Constellation Generation unit, and it competes in retail energy supply through Constellation NewEnergy. Other operations include HVAC services, appliance sales; nuclear plant development; and energy consulting services. In 2011 the company agreed to be bought by Exelon in a $7.9 billion deal.
