Company Description

Columbus Southern Power may not have discovered that people in southern Ohio have a need for electricity, but it is obligated to provide it. The utility, founded in 1937, transmits and distributes electricity to 749,000 customers in central and southern Ohio, including the capital city of Columbus. The utility, a subsidiary of American Electric Power and part of the AEP Ohio unit, operates almost 5,570 miles of electric transmission and distribution lines and has interests in seven power plants that give it about 3,740 MW of coal- and natural gas-fired generating capacity. It also sells bulk power to wholesale customers, such as municipal utilities and energy marketers.
