Colorado College does things a little differently, but it shares its mission with other institutions of higher learning. In 1970 the private liberal arts college adopted the Block Plan which divides the school year into eight three-and-a-half week blocks. Students take one course per three-and-a-half week block, allowing them to focus on a single subject at a time. Average class size is about 15 students with most classes capped at 25. The l2,000 students at Colorado College can choose from more than 80 majors and minors and are required to live on campus the first three years. The school was established in 1874 by Civil War veteran Gen. William Jackson Palmer, founder of the Rio Grande and Denver Railroads. To read the full description, subscribe now.
