Company Description

Cognis Corporation was the North American presence of global chemical manufacturer Cognis GmbH. The company focused on specialty chemicals like personal care products, coating chemicals, and industrial chemicals used by the mining, pharmaceutical, and construction industries. Those operations were divided among business units Care Chemicals, Nutrition and Health, and Functional Products. Cognis North America accounted for almost a quarter of its parent's total sales and operated from 10 locations spread throughout the US and Canada. In late 2010 Germany-based BASF SE acquired Cognis GMBH and began integrating the company's operations within its own.
