China FAW Group pioneered the expansion of China's auto industry; it is still on top as one of the country's largest auto makers. FAW started off as First Automotive Works with assistance from the former Soviet Union in 1956. In its early days, the company produced a single model of truck. The company now manufactures a product line that includes light, medium-duty, and heavy-duty trucks, along with cars, buses, and mini-vehicles. It sells more than 1.5 million vehicles per year.
