China Botanic Pharmaceutical believes in keeping its countrymen happy and healthy. Operating through subsidiary Harbin Renhuang Pharmaceutical Company, the company makes and distributes over-the-counter (OTC) medicines in China. Its most popular product, Siberian ginseng, is used to treat depression and nervous disorders. Other botanical (plant-based) products are used as antibiotics and to treat headaches, circulatory problems, and viruses such as influenza. Renhuang also makes animal-based remedies, such as shark liver extract (believed to prevent cancer) and an extract from deer (believed to improve kidney and blood function). Chairman and CEO Shaoming Li controls about 48% of the company's stock.
