From polio to poison control, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh has long been at the forefront of children's health care. Jonas Salk developed the polio vaccine there in the 1950s, and the ubiquitous Mr. Yuk poison label also got its start there. Founded in 1890, the hospital cares for thousands of sick kids each year -- both those who stay in one of its 300 inpatient beds and those who visit its outpatient, ambulatory surgery, and primary care centers.
