Company Description

A subsidiary of energy colossus Chevron, Chevron Mining owns and operates coal mines in Alabama (North River), New Mexico (McKinley), and Wyoming (Kemmerer). Chevron also owns a 50% stake in a coal mining joint venture in northern Wyoming. In addition the company owns a molybdenum mine in New Mexico. Molybdenum ore is used as an alloying agent in manufacturing of steel products. The company's North River coal mine has produced more than 147 million tons of coal over its 47 year history. In 2009 Chevron Mining reported proved and probable reserves of 193 million tons of coal. It is contractually obligated to deliver between 7 million and 9 million tons of coal per year through 2012.
