Selling specialist insurance and reinsurance coverage, Chaucer Holdings runs two Lloyd's of London syndicates through its primary subsidiary, Chaucer Syndicates Limited. Chaucer owns Syndicate 1084, which underwrites marine, auto, and other property risks, and controls Nuclear Syndicate 1176, which covers property and liability risks at nuclear power stations. The company also manages syndicates for other insurance companies. Chaucer Holdings, originally established in 1922, has international operations in countries including the US, Denmark, and Singapore. The company was acquired by Hanover Insurance Group for $510 million in 2011.
