Named after the mythical three-headed dog that guards the gates of hell, Cerberus Capital Management is a driving force among private equity firms. Among its more notable recent moves was the purchase of 80% of Chrysler from Daimler in 2007. Cerberus was also the lead investor of a group that acquired 51% of GMAC , the financing arm of General Motors . Additionally, the firm owns bus manufacturer Blue Bird and car parts maker TA Delaware . Although the company has made headlines with its automotive investments (and that industry's financial woes), Cerberus hasn't been solely concerned with cars and trucks: Automobile interests actually account for less than 10% of the firm's assets under management.
