If you didn't like the food in your high school cafeteria, don't blame Carter-Hoffmann; it just makes the serving lines -- not the Salisbury steak and canned peas (or the hairnets). Founded in 1947, the company manufactures mobile commercial refrigerators and freezers, quick serve lines, food carts, heated cabinets, and related food service holding equipment. Products are sold through a global network of distributors and independent dealers to chain restaurants, hotels, hospitals, and schools. Formerly part of Carrier Corp.'s Carrier Commercial Refrigeration unit, Carter-Hoffmann was acquired by Middleby Corp. in 2007 for $16.4 million cash; it joins Middleby's largest segment, Commercial Foodservice Equipment.
