Company Description
The Carnegie Corporation of New York believes sharing dollars makes sense. Created in 1911 by Andrew Carnegie (who wrote in his 1889 manifesto The Gospel of Wealth that the rich should share their good fortune), the foundation awards some $100 million in grants annually. It focuses on four areas: education, international peace and security, international development, and strengthening US democracy. Grant recipients include theĀ Johns Hopkins University, University of Cape Town, and Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation. Carnegie's will mandates that grants benefit the US, but about 7% of funds can be used to benefit current and former members of the British Commonwealth.
