Caribou Coffee operates the second-largest non-franchised coffee chain in the US (based on the number of locations) behind Starbucks with more than 410 stores in about 20 states, mostly in Minnesota. The outlets, designed to resemble mountain lodges, offer fresh-brewed coffee along with specialty coffee drinks and baked goods. The stores also sell whole bean coffee and brewing supplies. Caribou Coffee has about 170 franchised outlets, including many in international markets. Beyond its coffee shops, the company sells roasted coffee and related supplies to grocery stores and foodservice suppliers. Bahrain-based investment group Arcapita owns 60% of Caribou Coffee.
