Company Description
Caribe Homes draws inspiration from tropical hot spots, but things are a little less sunny these days. The privately-held homebuilder develops communities throughout South Florida and has sold more than 4,000 homes since it was founded in 1986. It also builds townhomes, villas, and condos -- many with tropics-inspired architecture. President Charlie Martinez (son of founder Emilio Martinez) and other members of the Martinez family own and manage the firm. The plunging home market in Florida has hurt Caribe and it has been forced to unload its inventory of unsold homes and lots at drastically reduced prices. Caribe also has slowed construction and cut its workforce by about 15% as it weathers the housing bust.
