Capital Trust thinks investing in commercial mortgages is a capital idea. The self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT) originates, underwrites, and invests in commercial real estate assets on its own behalf and for other investors. Its portfolio includes first mortgage and bridge loans, mezzanine loans, and collateralized mortgage-backed securities. Its CT Investment Management subsidiary manages five private equity funds and a separate account for third parties. Most Capital Trust's assets are related to US properties, but the REIT does make occasional investments in international instruments.
