Company Description

Capital Power Corporation is a new player in Canada's independent power market. The company, spun off from the government-owned EPCOR Utilities in July 2009, owns six power plants in Canada (Alberta and British Colombia) and three in the US (Connecticut, Maine, and Rhode Island). It also owns a wind farm in Ontario and stakes in three other plants in Alberta. Capital Power's plants are coal-fired, hydroelectric, or powered by natural gas and have a combined generating capacity of more than 3,400 MW. The company also has a 495 MW coal power plant under construction in Alberta and four more wind farms under development across Canada.
