Canongate Books Rankings
Company Description
Canongate Books has racked up more than a few seminal works. The independent publisher has released titles such as Yann Martel's The Life of Pi and Vernon God Little, by DBC Pierre. The company began as a publisher of Scottish books for Scottish audiences, but later turned to international markets -- including the Asia/Pacific region, continental Europe, and North America -- for growth. Canongate Books has offices in Edinburgh and London, with partners in New York and Melbourne. The company had a troubled past, going into receivership twice since its 1973 founding; publisher Jamie Byng led a rescue acquisition of Canongate Books in 1994. Byng maintains ownership of the company today.
