Just as a canal has two different sides, Canal Capital has two different businesses. The company develops, manages, leases, and sells commercial, industrial, and retail real estate in five Midwestern states: Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota. It develops or sells vacant land and manages properties such as offices, lumber yards, car shops, and meat-packing facilities. Capital also operates two public livestock stockyards. The company's stockyard operations (in St. Joseph, Missouri, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota) provide exchange markets for a variety of livestock and supplies. Chairman Asher Edelman owns some 44% of Canal Capital.
