The California Architects Board (CAB) helps ensure that buildings are designed by honest and competent professionals. Part of the Department of Consumer Affairs, the agency regulates the licensing of the profession of architecture in the state. CAB enforces laws governing architectural practice, educates consumers, and provides standards for architects. Formed by the California legislature in 1901, the agency strives to protect the public by helping architects provide safe and durable buildings. CAB also monitors the growing use of technology in the field of architecture. The board consists of 10 members, including five architects appointed by the governor.
