Company Description
Cairn Energy's can-do attitude has taken the oil and gas exploration and production company far afield. The independent has historically explored for oil and natural gas in the Indian subcontinent, but in 2011 it sold its majority stake Cairn India to an Indian conglomerate to pay down debt. In 2010 the company reported proved reserves of 225 million barrels of oil equivalent. The company's producing fields are Sangu offshore Bangladesh and Lakhsmi, Gauri, and Ravva in India; Cairn Energy's gross production 2010 was almost 131,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The company's new focus is the frontier offshore basins of Greenland where it holds 11 blocks with a combined area of about 63,000 sq.miles.
