The people at Cagle's may be outnumbered, but nonetheless, the chickens never have a chance. The poultry company slaughters and processes some 2 million birds a week. Vertically integrated, it also operates breeding, hatching, and feed milling operations (the hatchlings are raised by about 150 contract grower-farmers in Georgia and Tennessee). Cagel'specializes in value-added poultry -- most of its birds wind up deboned, quick-frozen, marinated, breaded, or otherwise processed to make preparation easier. Cagle's, which serves the retail food, foodservice, and food manufacturing sectors, has operations in Alabama and Georgia.
