Company Description

CSR, originally Cambridge Silicon Radio, designs silicon radio chips. The fabless semiconductor company designs short-range radio chips for the Bluetooth personal network standard, which supports wireless connections between electronic devices. CSR also designs Wi-Fi chips used in wireless phones and other mobile devices. The company is adding audio, video, imaging, and GPS capabilities to its portfolio. Its chip designs can be found in products made by tech heavyweights, such as Apple, Dell, Nokia, and Sharp. CSR gets most of its sales from the Asia/Pacific region. In a bid to significantly expand its business, CSR bought California-based video and audio chip maker Zoran in 2011.
