CLP Holdings has a powerful hold on Hong Kong. CLP is one of the largest electric utilities in Asia and is one of two Hong Kong electricity companies. Subsidiary CLP Power Hong Kong serves 2.3 million customers on the former colony's mainland and outlying islands (Hong Kong Island was left to Power Assets). CLP Power owns 40% of Castle Peak Power, which holds one of the world's largest coal-fired generation facilities, with Exxon Mobil (60%). However, Hong Kong is only half the story. CLP Holdings also has energy production assets (including solar, wind, and biomass plants) in Australia, India, Taiwan, Thailand, and in mainland China. The company has a total generating capacity of more than 20,000 MW.
