The company owns or has stakes in about 14,000 acres in Louisiana that contain oil and gas wells, mines, timber, and agricultural operations. Formed in 1930, the company does not perform any of these operations and is not involved in oil and gas exploration. Instead, it generates revenues through royalties from the natural resources produced on its land. Originally set up to receive mineral royalties spun off by a bank to its shareholders, CKX Lands' growth strategy is built around acquiring land in southwestern Louisiana.
