Company Description

CITIC Resources invests in energy and minerals exploration, development, and trading, focusing on oil exploration in mainland China, Indonesia, and Kazakhstan. The company was formerly engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of plywood but switched gears in 2004, the same year that China-owned investment group CITIC took a controlling stake. Since then it has built up an international portfolio of holdings including interests in Portland Aluminum Smelter (one of the largest in the world), the Coppabella and Moorvale coal mines in Queensland, and commodities trader CITIC Australia Trading. CITIC Group indirectly owns 54% of CITIC Resources.
