The telecom company sold its original business -- the operation of an Internet protocol (IP) network -- in 2003 and began providing phone and Internet service to residential and business customers. However, the company sold its telecom services unit, which provided long-distance service and integrated business telecommunications, to North Central Equity in 2005 in order to focus on the licensing of its patented Voice-over-IP (VoIP) technologies. It also is involved in the acquisition and disposition of distressed and surplus assets throughout the US and Canada.
