Burns, Philp & Company is an investment vehicle for New Zealand's richest man. A subsidiary of Rank Group, which is owned by Graeme Hart, Burns Philp has mostly divested its food holdings, although it continues to hold 20% in Goodman Fielder and 50% in Fresh Start Bakeries Australia Pty. It agreed to sell its Fresh Start Bakeries stake in 2008. Burns, Philp was bought by Rank Group Australia in 2006. The acquisition gives Hart a non-public (and therefore, non-disclosed) platform from which to make investments. Through Rank, Hart had previously owned some 50% of the company, but Hart decided he wanted it all. To read the full description, subscribe now.
