Brownsville Public Utilities Board (Brownsville PUB) is a municipally-owned utility company providing electric, water, and wastewater services to more than 50,000 residential and commercial customers in Brownsville, Texas. The utility's two water treatment plants have the capacity to provide 40 million gallons of treated water per day. In the 1960s Brownsville citizens narrowly defeated a bid by electrical provider Central Power & Light Co. to buy the Brownsville utility. Following this the city set up Brownsville PUB as a municipally owned utility, giving customers control over the management of their utility.
