Company Description

The engine that powers holding company Brasmotor S.A. is its controlling stake in appliance maker Whirlpool S.A. (formerly named Multibrás). Whirlpool S.A. manufactures a wide range of household appliances (including washing machines, dryers, microwaves, and refrigerators) under such brands as Brastemp and Consul (the two brands dominate Brazil's appliance market), as well as Whirlpool and KitchenAid. The unit also houses the operations of Embraco, which makes refrigerator compressors, electronic components, condensers, and evaporators. Brasmotor was founded in 1945 and is a subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation. Whirlpool first invested in the company in 1958, and today it owns more than 95% of Brasmotor.
