Brait moves in international circles, and then some. The global investment and asset management company specializes in alternative investments, primarily in South Africa but also in Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Asia. It structures, raises, and manages funds on behalf of others, investing in public and private vehicles through hedge funds, mezzanine debt, funds of funds, and other investment avenues. Brait has some 10.5 billion rand (approximately $1.4 billion) in assets under management. The company was established in 1998 as an investment bank and investment holding group but has since exited the banking and corporate finance industries.
