Company Description
Boeing is known for commercial planes, but its Defense, Space & Security (BDS) unit (formerly Integrated Defense Systems) carries the big sticks. BDS traces its roots to Boeing's 2002 merger of its Military Aircraft & Missile Systems and Space & Communications units. BDS includes military aircraft as well as missiles, airborne lasers, and Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles. BDS is also NASA's prime contractor on the International Space Station, serves the Space Shuttle program, with Lockheed Martin, and supplies information and communications satellite systems. The Department of Defense (DoD) accounts for about 80% of BDS sales.
