Like the river that gives the state its name, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi is big and broad. The mutual insurance company, which provides health care coverage and related services to members, is the state's largest health plan provider. It is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association with managed care offerings that include group (Network Blue), individual (Blue Care), and supplemental Medicare (Blue 65) health plans. Policies are marketed through a statewide network of agents. Members have access to a contracted network of some 7,500 family care and specialty doctors, as well as about 100 hospitals across the state.
