Specialty pharmaceutical firm Biovail has unveiled a number of improved versions of existing drugs using its oral drug-delivery technologies. The company makes extended-release versions of GlaxoSmithKline'santidepressant Wellbutrin (Wellbutrin XL), Sanofi-Aventis' blood pressure medication Cardizem (Cardizem LA), and J&J's chronic pain drug Ultram (Ultram ER). Other products include genital herpes treatment Zovirax, anti-hypertensive Tiazac, and diabetes therapy Glumetza (licensed from Depomed). Biovail is also developing new central nervous system (CNS) therapies.
