Bidz.com combines the markdowns of a dollar store, the format of an auction house, and the convenience of the Internet to bring sparkling deals to shoppers. The company buys closeout merchandise and sells it using a live-auction format, with no reserve prices and $1 opening bids, even on items that might retail for more than $20,000. It mostly sells jewelry, including gold, platinum, and silver items set with diamonds, and other precious and semi-precious stones, but visitors will also find deals on electronics and collectibles such as art and antiques, coins, and sports cards. In 2008 the company introduced foreign language versions of its auction site and launched Buyz.com, a fixed-price e-commerce site. To read the full description, subscribe now.
