A venture capital firm specializing in such high-tech fields as communications, clean tech, digital media, infrastructure, semiconductors, software, and industrial technologies, it has invested in more than 200 businesses in the US, Canada, China, India, Israel, and Europe since its 1983 founding. It invests as little as several hundred thousand dollars to seed new ventures up to $100 million for late-stage expansion; it also takes equity stakes in companies through its private equity business, which participates in leveraged buyouts, spinoffs, and take-private transactions.
