Knocked out of its spot as Brazil's largest private sector bank by the 2009 merger that created ItaúUnibanco, Banco Bradesco still holds its own with more than R$500 billion in assets. It offers retail banking services (through more than 6,000 offices) as well as private, middle-market, and corporate banking; offerings include savings plans, leasing, auto financing, and credit cards. Brokerage subsidiary Bradesco Securities operates in the US and the UK, while Banco Bradesco Luxembourg provides private banking services. . Altogether, the bank boasts more than 19 million customers. Bradesco was founded as Banco Brasileiro de Descontos in 1943.
