Backus Hospital, which was founded in 1893 and serves eastern Connecticut. The hospital has some 210 medical, surgical, and critical care beds. It provides specialty services such as trauma care, cancer care, neurology, obstetrics, urology, and cardiology. The Backus Corporation network also includes several community health clinics, outpatient and rehabilitation centers, medical labs and home and hospice organizations. The Backus Foundation is a not-for-profit affiliate that solicits and receives contributions on behalf of the hospital.
