Holding company BFC Financial controls Florida-based bank BankAtlantic Bancorp and investment firm Woodbridge Holdings , formerly Levitt Corporation, which has holdings in a real estate developer in Florida and other companies. (Famous for constructing Levittown, New York -- widely regarded as the first planned community in the US -- Levitt filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2007 and reemerged the following year as Woodbridge.)
